When I was taking Early Literacy, I had to go out to schools and help preschoolers with learning how to pronounce different sounds. I also played different games about phonics to make it more exciting for the children. Every Thursday, I had to go to this school to help three preschoolers at a time. Well one particular student seem shy. I introduced myself to the children , and ask them questions about themselves. I started talking to the children about reading and sounding out words, and two of the children said yes I know how to read a little bit, but the other child didn't say anything, so I called his name and said can you tell me things that you like to do . He answered the question, but I could tell something was bothering him. I continued with my lesson , and the children were so eager to learn more about phonics , and etc. So at the end of the session the child came to me and cried. I was shocked, because I didn't even know the child, and had no ideal what was wrong with him. So, I reported him to his teacher. So the next day , I had the same group of children. Everyday I came in the children were excited. To sum everything up, the child that was so shy, he was in a abusive home. It seemed like he just wanted somebody to just hug him , and tell him its going to be ok. As days past, I started to observe him more. I find out that he didn't have any clothes, shoes, food, and much more. When he got closer to me (as in developing a relationship), he said Ms,Knox thank you for all you have done for me , and I love you. The last words he said to me was I wish I was your child. For that little boy to say that to me, it touched me in so many ways. I have learned that children also go through things, but they do not know how to let it out. I was glad to have been in that situation , because it taught me so much. Until this day, I go and check on the little boy every week to make sure he is okay, and to tell him I love him , and God is going to watch over him. Encouragement is all children need. They need to feel love and wanted jus like adults!!
